WHY A MEMBERSHIP LIST?
Members requested an easy way to connect, find friends, and create critiquing partnerships.
Therefore, the names of all dues-paying members are currently listed on a restricted page, along with contact information.
Hopefully, this list will facilitate the formation of "writing triads" and other collaborative efforts that prove valuable to London Writers' Society members.
Note: Since everyone is concerned about spammers, marketers and others who might use such information to inconvenience London Writers' Society members, you must be a paid up member of the London Writers' Society and have an assigned password to access it.
HOW TO USE THE LIST
While LWS critique groups are fantastic for critiquing short stories and honing writing skills, when a writer has a novel to edit, he or she will never get through it by bringing four pages a month to a critique group.
At that rate it would take years to critique/edit a novel, and we all know that this is an untenable way to get the work done.
My focus now is on helping members connect and form smaller working groups that will commit to getting through a manuscript so that it is "submission ready" or nearly so.
It is always a good idea to have a professional editor take a look at a book manuscript before sending it off, yet you can save yourself a significant amount of money by making sure the editor is not spending time on correcting basics, such as spelling and grammatical errors.
From the feedback received since the inception of the society, the ability to connect with other writers and get good feedback is just about every writer's greatest need.
WHY IS THE LIST PASSWORD PROTECTED?
This is so members will feel safe and be safe. They know that only others who are committed to forming a viable writing community, and for whom they have the same contact information, have access.
This is a first step toward having the "best of all possible worlds" - the openness, friendliness, and safety of a local writing community with convenient on-line accessibility.
- Want to contact a fellow member to see if he or she wants to meet to exchange critiques? Now you have a way.
- Can't read the writing of the member who gave you her e-mail address so you could contact her? Now you can look it up.
HOW DOES THE PAGE WORK?
The web page containing member information has been encrypted using a complex algorithm. Without a valid password, it is not possible to access the page.
A sample page has been set up so you can see it work. The password for the test page is:
test
Click on the button below and see what pops up. Examine the source code and you can see this isn't something that can be hacked easily. Key in the sample password "test" and see how this software works. Note: The password is case sensitive. Neither Test nor TEST nor TeSt nor any other variation will work. Only "test" will unlock the test page. ~ Clyo
